BEIJING, May 9 (Xinhua) -- China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF) has called for publicizing innovation and experience of poverty alleviation and support for the disabled.

This initiative is to mark the 29th National Day for Helping the Disabled, which falls on May 19.

The publicity will give a special focus on stories in which the disabled are helped to secure employment or set up entrepreneurship.

China's basic livelihood and public service for the disabled achieved new development in 2018, said Guo Liqun, a CDPF official.

There were 666,000 disabled students at school for compulsory education in 2018, 87,000 more from a year ago, according to Guo.

In the same year, a total of 118,000 urban disabled people were newly employed, and 494,000 disabled people were provided with occupational training, Guo said.
