BAGHDAD, May 9 (Xinhua) -- At least eight people were killed and 12 other were injured on Thursday in a suicide bomb attack at a marketplace in Sadr City neighborhood in eastern the Iraqi capital Baghdad, a police source told Xinhua.
"The death toll rose to eight and up to 12 people were wounded in the suicide bombing in Sadr City neighborhood," Ihsan Ali from Baghdad police said, citing latest police reports.
The attack took place in the evening when a suicide bomber detonated his explosive vest at a popular market in Sadr City neighborhood, Ali said.
Earlier, Ali put the death toll at two, adding that six others were wounded by the suicide bombing.
Baghdad Operations Command, which is responsible for the security of Baghdad, confirmed the attack in a statement without giving further details.
