BANGKOK, May 10 (Xinhua) -- Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has submitted a list of 250 senators to King Maha Vajiralongkorn, said deputy government spokesperson Thaksada Sangkhachan on Friday.
The prime minister on Friday submitted the list of 250 senators, who had been selected by the ruling National Council for Peace and Order, to the monarch for approval, according to the deputy spokesperson.
The designated senators include 15 former members of the Prayut cabinet such as former deputy prime ministers Prajin Juntong and Chatchai Sarikulya and dozens of members of the National Legislative Assembly,
The Thai 2017 constitution specifies that the elected 500 MPs and 250 senators elect a new prime minister together.
The first meeting of the lower house of Thailand will be held soon, after which a new prime minister will be chosen by those MPs together with the 250 senators.
