KIEV, May 10 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine's president-elect Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday asked the parliament to set the date for his inauguration ceremony on May 19.
"I appeal to the Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine's parliament): at the next meeting, you should set the inauguration date for May 19. It is not my demand, it is the demand of the Ukrainian people," Zelensky said in a video address to the parliament published on his Facebook page.
Zelensky was elected as the sixth president of Ukraine on April 21. According to Ukrainian law, his inauguration should take place no later than June 3.
The next meeting of the Ukrainian parliament is scheduled to be held on May 14.
