HEFEI, May 11 (Xinhua) -- The China Youth Forum on Latin American Studies was held Saturday in Hefei, capital of east China's Anhui Province.
More than 100 experts and scholars exchanged their views on topics such as China-Latin America cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), trilateral relations between China, the United States and Latin America, and political patterns and trends in Latin America.
"China has become Latin America's second largest trading partner, with the trade volume between the two sides reaching 300 billion U.S. dollars in 2018. China is also an important source of direct foreign investment for Latin America," said Xu Shicheng, former vice director of Institute of Latin American Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
So far, 19 Latin American countries have signed memorandums of understanding with China to promote the BRI. China's enterprises now enjoy a more promising future in Latin America under the BRI, according to Xu.
The forum was co-sponsored by the China Society for Latin American History Research, China Society for Latin American Studies, and Academy of Strategies for Innovation and Development under Anhui University.
