BRATISLAVA, May 13 (Xinhua) -- The Czech Republic failed to find a way past Russia's excellent goaltender Andrei Vasilevski, losing 3-0 in the ice hockey world championship Group B on Monday.

The Czech fans created an almost home-like atmosphere for their national team in Bratislava but were ultimately let down as Russia's goalkeeper Vasilevski who made 23 saves on his first shutout at the hockey worlds in Slovakia.

Sergei Andronov opened the score in the first period, Nikita Gusev deked the Czech goalie out in the second and NIkita Zajcev concluded the lopsided game with an empty-netter from far off.

Russia remain unbeaten and will probably stay that way as they face the goalless Team Italy on Wednesday. After their first championship loss, the Czechs will face Latvia the day after.
