WINDHOEK, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Namibia will launch its first ever regional consumer price index (CPI), a statistical officer said Wednesday at a press conference.
The exercise, although costly, will positively influence the national economy by providing reliable data in various sectors, said John Steytler, chairman of the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA), without giving more details.
"Let me call for collaboration between the NSA and other organizations as a way of working together in collecting data," he said.
Speaking on the same occasion, United Nations Population Fund Country Representative for Namibia Dennia Gayle said the launch of the regional CPI will pave the way for collecting data in Namibia's population census scheduled for 2021.
