BEIJING, May 15 (Xinhua) -- A mainland spokesperson has slammed the recent remarks made by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in Taiwan regarding China's largest online shopping platform Taobao, calling them "specious, groundless and very irresponsible."
The DPP has recently claimed that the people of Taiwan have their personal data collected while shopping on Taobao, and their votes would be subsequently manipulated.
"Such remarks called white black," said Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, at a press conference held in Beijing Wednesday.
Currently, the DPP is not only tightening their control over Taiwan, dividing the society and oppressing those who support the development of cross-Strait relations, but also trying to shift the focus, scapegoat others and incite cross-Strait confrontation to add to hostility between the mainland and Taiwan, Ma said.
"Compatriots from either side of the Strait would not fall for the trick," he warned.
