MADRID, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Spanish Liga Santander club Real Betis confirmed on Sunday that Quique Setien will not be their first team coach next season.
The club confirmed the news in an official communique issued just two hours after Betis won their last game of the season 2-0 away to Real Madrid thanks to goals from Loren Moron and Jese Rodriguez.
The win means the Seville based club ends the campaign 10th in the league with 50 points from 38 games, while they ended Setien's first season in charge sixth with 60 points, qualifying for the Europa League.
Betis were knocked out of the first knockout stage in Europe, while they lost the semi-final of the Copa del Rey knockout competition to Valencia, which was a big disappointment as this season's final will be played in their Benito Villamarin.
Those disappointments coincided with a dip in form which saw Betis drop out of contention for a top-six finish this season.
"Setien has taken Real Betis back into European competition and has increased the value of the squad, while strengthening the youth system and achieved triumphs which will go down as the best in Real Betis' history," said the club.
Abelardo Fernandez, who last month confirmed he would be leaving Alaves, is the early favorite to take over at the club.
