COLOMBO, May 21 (Xinhua) -- One of the opposition parties in Sri Lanka, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), on Tuesday handed over a no confidence motion against the Sri Lankan government to Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya, the Speaker's media unit said here.

The no confidence motion was handed over to Jayasuriya by JVP legislators led by Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Dissanayake said the no confidence motion was brought against the entire government including President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the cabinet of ministers over their failure to take measures to prevent the terrorist attacks on April 21, despite having prior information.

Both President Sirisena and Prime Minister Wickremesinghe said that the police had prior knowledge of possible terror attacks before the bloody bombings took place, but they failed to share the information with the government.

Shortly after the attacks, Sirisena called for the resignation of Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and Police Chief Pujith Jayasundara over the serious security lapses.

More than 250 people were killed and over 500 injured in the Easter explosions which targeted churches and luxury hotels.
