JAKARTA, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Joko Widodo, who was re-elected president of Indonesia, delivered his victory speech on Tuesday, calling for unity in developing the country.
The call was made amid political tensions over the election results, which were rejected by Widodo's rival camp for what they claimed massive fraud.
"Let's unite to develop our country, our motherland, for the sake of peace and prosperity for our generation as well as our grand children's generation in the future," Widodo said.
At the rally held in a neighborhood mostly inhabited by low-income people, Widodo conveyed his gratitude for people across the nation for their votes.
Widodo was declared winner of the April 17 presidential election by the election commission, with 55.5 percent of the votes earlier in the day. His rival Prabowo Subianto got 44.5 percent of the votes.
Prabowo said he would file a lawsuit to the Constitutional Court against the election results.
Meanwhile, Prabowo's supporters staged demonstrations demanding the disqualification of Widodo for what they claimed irregularities during the election.
Some 34,000 joint military and police forces were deployed to ensure security during the demonstration in Jakarta, national police spokesperson Dedi Prasetyo said.
Police foiled plans of a homegrown Islamic State (IS)-linked terrorist group to carry out attacks during the demonstration, and arrested at least 29 of the group's members and confiscated bombs.
