KIEV, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday signed a decree to dissolve the parliament and set early parliamentary elections for July 21, the presidential press service said.
According to the decree, which was published on the presidential website, the absence of the ruling coalition was the formal reason for the parliament's disbandment.
Earlier in the day, Zelensky held consultations with the parliament's leadership and representatives of the factions, during which he said that the parliament must be dissolved due to an "extremely low trust of Ukrainian citizens in the institution."
Zelensky has announced that he is dissolving the parliament during his inauguration speech on Monday.
Zelensky, 41, was elected with over 73 percent of the votes as president of Ukraine on April 21 for a five-year term.
The next parliamentary elections had been originally set for Oct. 27.
