TOKYO, May 23 (Xinhua) -- The organizers of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics said Thursday that they will decide on a concrete competition format for the newly added urban sports including skateboarding in July.

"We can't forget the fact that the urban sports were the events that we, the 2020 Tokyo Olympic organizing committee, proposed. It starts in Tokyo, so we need to make good decisions and prepare," said Yoshiro Mori, chief of the organizing committee of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, in a press conference in Tokyo.

"They are sports for young athletes with loud music. It's important to come up with something by around July," Mori said.

Mori said that with event-specific security plans, some urban sports competitions need to be held "about one meter in front of the audience."

The press conference was held following a three-day project review with the International Olympic Committee's Coordination Commission headed by John Coates, chairman of the commission.

The project review in Tokyo monitored the progress of preparation work such as response to severe weather conditions, and the levels of ticket applications and test events.

Coates said he saw "steady progress" in response to concerns over Japan's summer heat and traffic, which Mori said remain the biggest issues for organizers to tackle.

"We've received reports on countermeasures, such as for adverse weather conditions and transportation," Coates said, adding that measures to address Tokyo's busy traffic conditions should be considered after the games' test events.

The Tokyo Olympic Games will be held from July 24 to Aug. 9 in 2020, followed by the Paralympic Games from Aug. 25 to Sept. 6.
