SHANGHAI, May 25 (Xinhua) -- A ship carrying 100 tonnes of Cambodian bananas arrived in Shanghai Friday, marking the start of China's banana imports from Cambodia.
According to Shanghai Customs, the declared value of the bananas was 63,800 U.S. dollars.
In August 2018, the two countries signed an agreement on the quarantine requirements of Cambodia's banana exports to China. Currently Cambodia boasts an annual output of 300,000 tonnes of bananas that can meet the requirements of the Chinese market.
Bananas are the first Cambodian fruit to be exported to China.
China imported 897 million U.S. dollars worth of bananas in 2018, about three times of that in 2012. Enditem
