MEXICO CITY, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Mexico's newly created National Guard will begin operating nationwide on June 30, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Friday.
"Training courses for members of the National Guard have already started. Although (the security force) is already operating in some states, the national, formal operation will begin on June 30," Lopez Obrador said in his daily press conference.
Legislators in the lower house of the Congress approved Thursday night four laws that are necessary for the functioning of the National Guard, a new security force made up of members of the military and federal police.
The National Guard, formed to curtail violence in Mexico, plans to incorporate some 150,000 members of the military and the federal police force over the next three years.
