LOS ANGELES, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Shark warning signs were posted Sunday after a California man was killed in a shark attack a day earlier in the U.S. state of Hawaii, according to local media reports.
The 65-year-old was swimming about 60 yards (55 m) from the shore of the Ka'anapali Beach Park on Maui island Saturday morning when the shark attacked, the authorities said.
First responders rescued the man, identified as Thomas Smiley from California, and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but he was "unresponsive," according to the authorities.
It was Hawaii's first fatal shark attack since 2015, when a snorkeler off Maui was killed, according to local media reports.
