ATHENS, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Greece will hold early national elections on July 7, the Greek government's spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos announced here on Tuesday.
On June 10, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will ask President Prokopis Pavlopoulos to dissolve parliament, Tzanakopoulos said in an interview with local Alpha radio.
"The premier decided to hold the elections on July 7 to avoid disrupting the process of school exams," he said.
Tsipras announced his decision to call early national elections on Sunday night after his radical left-wing SYRIZA party suffered heavy losses to the conservatives in the European and local elections.
The current government's term expires in October this year.
