KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's producer price index for local production decreased by 1.4 percent year-on-year in April, official data showed Wednesday.
According to Malaysian Statistics Department, the fall was mainly dragged by agriculture, forestry and fishing index which slumped 11.9 percent year-on-year.
Meanwhile, water supply and manufacturing index also dropped 2.6 percent and 0.8 percent respectively.
However, the index of electricity and gas supply as well as mining increased by 1.5 percent and 1.4 percent respectively.
As compared to the previous month, the producer price index for local production rose 0.6 percent in April, driven by index of mining, agriculture, forestry and fishing, as well as water supply.
For the period of January to April, the producer price index for local production contracted 2 percent year-on-year.
