KIEV, May 30 (Xinhua) -- The Ukrainian parliament on Thursday failed to approve the resignation of Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman that he had handed in earlier this month.
Only 97 legislators supported the motion, far less than the minimum required 226, said a statement on the parliament website.
According to local experts, the parliament's decision means that Groysman and the current cabinet will continue to fulfill their duties until the early parliamentary elections, which are due to take place on July 21.
On May 20, Groysman announced that he is willing to leave the post of prime minister to focus on preparing for the parliamentary elections.
The Ukrainian government led by Groysman took office on April 14, 2016.
Among the key achievements of his government in the past three years, Groysman listed macroeconomic stability, an improved business environment and social welfare, an overhaul of the country's road infrastructure, modernization of the army, as well as healthcare, education and decentralization reforms.
