AUBAGNE, France, June 1 (Xinhua) -- The Japanese Olympic team shocked defending champion England 2-1 while Chile, the 2009 winner, beat Portugal 1-0 in the other Group A match in the opening day's actions of Toulon Tournament here on Saturday.

Japan's under-22 team created more chances in the first half thanks to their energetic striker Ogawa Koki. But the Jubilo Iwata man's efforts either flew over the cross bar or was well saved by England keeper Ellery Balcombe.

It was England's under-20 outfit that broke the deadlock in the 40th minute when Dwight McNeil's in-swinging corner was met by captain Trevoh Chalobah, who guided a diving header home.

Japan levelled the score less than two minutes into the second half, Takuma Ominami headed home a free-kick from the left.

The Asian side pulled ahead in the 69th minute when Yuchi Naganuma planted a header past Balcombe after receiving a cross from Ito Tatsuya.

Chile's under-22 side edged the under-19 team of Portugal with a goal from Mathias Pinto in the 13th minute.

China, led by Dutchman Guus Hiddink, will play their first Group C match against Ireland on Monday.
