AMMAN, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's unemployment rate reached 19 percent in the first quarter of 2019, rising by 0.6 percent compared to the same period of 2018, officials figures showed Sunday.
According to a statement from the Department of Statistics, unemployment among men reached 16.4 percent in the first quarter of 2019, while among women it was 28.9 percent.
Unemployment among men rose by 0.4 percent in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period of last year, while for women it rose by 1.1 percent.
Unemployment was high among holders of university degrees and stood at 24.4 percent.
According to official figures, poverty rate in Jordan stands at 15.9 percent.
