JUBA, June 5 (Xinhua) -- The South Sudan government said on Wednesday it will investigate tribal skirmishes that left 23 people dead and scores injured following cattle raids in northern parts of the country.
Michael Makuei Lueth, minister of information and broadcasting, said the investigation will help apprehend individuals or groups that are fanning inter-ethnic violence in Twic and Northern Liech states located in northern reaches of South Sudan.
"We are in the process of forming a committee in collaboration with the state officials including involving the two communities' local chiefs to help the government in investigating the incident and bring the perpetrators to book," Makuei told reporters in Juba.
He called on the states' governors to restore calm among communities quarrelling over cattle theft.
"The government is in consultation with warring communities on the membership of the committee first and this is what is delaying the launching of the investigation," said Makuei.
One soldier died last week as fight broke between two communities in northern parts of South Sudan over cattle rustling.
