MADRID, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Spanish Liga Santander club, Real Betis on Thursday confirmed Joan Francesc Ferrer 'Rubi' as their first team coach to replace the sacked Quique Setien.
The news means that Rubi leaves Espanyol after just one season in which he led the Barcelona based outfit to a seventh place finish in the Liga Santander and qualified them for next season's Europa League.
It also means that Espanyol's Chinese international Wi Lei will have a new coach for next season, although Espanyol have yet to confirm Rubi's replacement.
Betis have to pay 900,000 Euros in compensation for Rubi, who has signed a three-year contract with the Sevilla based club.
The 49-year-old coach arrives at Betis after a season with Espanyol and a year which saw him guide Huesca to promotion to the Liga Santander for the first time in the club's history, however, his two coaching experiences prior to that were disappointing as he failed to save Sporting Gijon and Levante from relegation.
