KIEV, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Rumble strips, a road safety feature to alert drivers of potential danger, will start appearing on Ukraine's roads starting from September this year, deputy minister of Regional Development, Construction and Housing of Ukraine Lev Partskhaladze wrote on Friday.
The installation of the rumble strips is set out by the new public road construction code which will take effect on Sept 1. Rumble strips applied along the Ukrainian highways can significantly improve road safety and reduce the number of possible road accidents, the deputy minister said.
"Being tired or being sleepy may have catastrophic consequences...Constructing rumble strips along the roads can significantly increase road safety and reduce the number of possible accidents. That's why we find them very practical," wrote Partskhaladze on his Facebook page.
More than 150,000 road accidents happened in Ukraine in 2018, according to the patrol police department of Ukraine. About nine people die every day in road accidents in Ukraine.
