BEIRUT, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese Interior Minister Raya El Hassan announced on Friday that more than 30 people suspected of planning terror attacks have been arrested since 2016, the National News Agency (NNA) reported.
"These people were planning to establish a base for the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group in Lebanon," Hassan said during a meeting of the Central Security Council.
They were also planning "terrorist attacks during the last parliamentary elections," she added.
On Tuesday, an IS member blew himself up in the northern city of Tripoli after being pursued and cornered by the police and Internal Security Forces.
The terrorist attack killed several members of the Lebanese Army and Internal Security Forces.
