AMMAN, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Jordan and Germany on Sunday underlined the need for continued support to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to make it continue to play its mandated role.
During the talks between Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi and his German counterpart Heiko Maas in Amman, they discussed the Palestinian issue, the Syrian crisis and efforts to ease the tension surrounding Iran.
Maas said Jordan and Germany see eye to eye in continued support for UNRWA, adding the sole way to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is through the two-state solution.
Voicing support for Jordan and its efforts, the German minister said his country will provide Jordan with a 100-million-U.S.-dollar concessional loan to support its economic reforms and help the kingdom overcome economic challenges.
In a joint press conference following the talks, Safadi reaffirmed the strategic relations with Germany, the second largest donor to Jordan.
He said Jordan highly appreciates Germany's support for the achievement of the two-state solution.
"We want lasting and comprehensive peace and for that to happen, there is a need to end the occupation and establish an independent Palestinian state at the borders of 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital," the Jordanian minister noted.
On Syria, the two sides underlined the need for intensified efforts to reach a political solution via dialogue in the country.
