BEIJING, June 10 (Xinhua) -- The Dragon Boat Festival holiday from June 7 to 9 saw an increase in family trips, with a year-on-year growth of 130 percent, according to a report released by Chinese travel services and social networking platform Mafengwo.
Theme parks were the most popular destination for parents to spend the holiday with their children and family-themed hotels were also popular during the festival, said the report.
Marine parks in coastal cities were popular among travelers due to the hot summer, said the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, adding that China saw a total of 95.98 million domestic trips during the holiday, with a revenue of 39.33 billion yuan (about 5.7 billion U.S. dollars).
Coinciding with this year's Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, various activities were staged across the country to display intangible cultural heritage during the Dragon Boat Festival, which also attracted tourists.
In Shangri-La, a famous tourist destination in southwest China's Yunnan Province, a three-day exhibition with more than thirty intangible cultural heritage programs was held during the Festival, which attracted more than 10,000 visitors, said the local administration.
