JIANGMEN, South China, June 12 (Xinhua) -- China swept leaders Turkey at the FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League here on Wednesday, extending their winning streak to nine games.
Gong Xiangyu scored a team-high 14 points while Li Yingying had 13 points for China. Ismailoglu Meliha and Karakur Ebrar scored 15 points each for Turkey.
Gong scored eight points to gift China a 16-11 lead in the first set. Turkey bounced back to take the lead, reaching the set point at 24-23. Zhu Ting scored twice with her symbolic skill to help China to win the first set 26-24.
Gong continued to impress the home crowd in the second set, lifting China to a 19-13 lead. The home side cruised to win the second set 25-19 and led the match 2-0.
Turkey led 8-4 into the technical timeout in the third set. Yan Ni and Zhang Changning led China to a 6-0 spurt and turned the set all around. Li Yingying scored the final two points to seal the win for China at 25-21.
In an earlier match, the United States came back to win over Poland 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-11), ending their two-match losing streak.
China will next meet the United States while Turkey will face Poland on Thursday.
