SAO PAULO, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Brazil midfielder Arthur resumed light training on Wednesday, easing fears that a knee injury could force him out of the Copa America.

The 22-year-old took part in running exercises and ball work for the first time since suffering a knock to his right knee during the Selecao's 7-0 defeat of Honduras in a friendly on Sunday.

However the Barcelona player is unlikely to be fit in time to start in Brazil's opening Copa America match against Bolivia in Sao Paulo on Friday.

"Arthur suffered major trauma to his right knee area and this led to a lot of pain and limitation in his movement," Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar said. "He's been receiving treatment and has responded very well so far. Today he started physical work - a transition from physical therapy to normal training."

Arthur was due to be re-evaluated on Thursday, Lasmar added.

Brazil will also meet Peru and Venezuela in Group A of the continental tournament, which will be played in five Brazilian cities from June 14 to July 7.
