CAIRO, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi visited on Saturday morning the national football team during their training ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) that will be held in country, the Egyptian presidency said in a statement.
"The president urged all the members of the national team to do their best to bring happiness to the Egyptian people who look at them with all respect and appreciation," presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said.
Sisi wished the team all success in Africa's biggest continental soccer tournament that Egypt hosts for the fifth time in its history.
The 32nd AFCON will kick off on June 21, with the opening match between hosts Egypt and Zimbabwe, and the final will be played on July 19.
Joined by 24 teams in six groups, the competition will be held at six stadiums in four Egyptian cities: the capital Cairo, Alexandria, Suez and Ismailia.
The Pharaohs are the most frequent AFCON title holder, as they won the championship seven times in their history, the latest was in 2010.
