UNITED NATIONS, June 20 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has welcomed a comprehensive development plan to respond to the root causes of human mobility coming from Central America, his spokesman said on Thursday.
The plan, jointly developed by Mexico and the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, aims to boost investment in southern Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, open integration programs and safeguard the rights of undocumented migrants.
Guterres appreciated Mexico's invitation for UN agencies, funds and programs to support the implementation of the plan, said Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman, in a statement.
The United Nations reiterates its commitment to supporting the coordinated action of all agencies, funds and programs to ensure the implementation of the plan in close collaboration with the four countries involved, said the statement.
