BEIRUT, June 22 (Xinhua) -- A Hezbollah official said on Saturday that the Lebanese can pose serious harm to Israel if it decides to wage a war against Lebanon, local media reported.

"The only way to protect Lebanon from Israeli attacks is the country's capability to inflict serious harm to the enemy," Hezbollah's member of parliament Nawaf Al Moussawi was quoted as saying by the National News Agency.

Israel must be aware that if it grabs any possible opportunity to hit Lebanon, it will incur heavy losses, Moussawi said during a ceremony in Tyre in southern Lebanon.

"(U.S. President Donald) Trump was planning to hit Iran in the past few days, but he changed his mind because he knows that the Iranian reaction will be very strong and damaging to the U.S. interests," Moussawi said.

Iran announced that it will respond firmly to any U.S. threat against it.

Any possible war between the U.S. and Iran may involve Lebanon through Hezbollah, Iran's strongest proxy in the region.
