HANOI, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Over 879,700 Vietnamese high school students on Tuesday started sitting for a national final exam, compared with nearly 925,800 students last year, local media reported.

The results of the three-day exam will be used for both high school graduation and university entrance consideration, daily newspaper Tien Phong (Pioneer) reported, noting that 653,000 examinees have registered for entrance to universities or colleges nationwide, compared with 642,400 examinees last exam.

Examinees are to do four tests, including literature, maths and foreign language, and either a group of three natural science subjects (physics, chemistry and biology) or a group of three social science subjects (history, geography and civics).

This year, the exam is being organized at 1,980 locations nationwide with a total of 38,050 rooms, daily newspaper Tuoi Tre (Youth) quoted the latest statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training as reporting.

In 2015, Vietnam integrated its high school graduation exam and university entrance exam into one national exam, mainly to save time and costs.
