ATHENS, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Greece's Supreme Court gave on Wednesday the green light to 20 parties, coalitions and independent candidates to run for office in the upcoming snap general elections on July 7, Greek national news agency AMNA reported.
Forty parties and coalitions took part in the elections for the European parliament on May 26 which triggered the early national elections, after the ruling Radical Left SYRIZA party suffered heavy losses to the conservatives.
The main opposition New Democracy party holds a strong lead for the new electoral battle, according to all recent opinion surveys.
The current government's term would end in autumn this year.
