MOGADISHU, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Somali security forces on Thursday night killed a member of the al-Shabab militant group in the capital, Mogadishu, a police officer confirmed on Friday.
Zakia Hussein, deputy police commander, said the militant was shot dead by the police in Mogadishu's Bondhere district.
"As the police were making patrol they came across a man armed with a pistol and killed him on the spot," Zakia said.
She noted that the armed man was about to shoot one of the police officers but the police killed him on sight.
The latest incident comes as the police tightened the security of the capital, blocking the main roads in the city to ward off possible attacks by the militants.
