BEIJING, June 28 (Xinhua) -- With the global development at a critical juncture, upholding multilateralism and achieving common development are more important than ever.
As the world's second largest economy and a major country with strong sense of responsibility, China is committed to promoting world peace, contributing to global development and upholding the international order no matter how the international situation changes.
Besides within the mechanism of the Group of 20 major economies that are holding a summit in Japan, China has played constructive roles in the United Nations (UN), the World Trade Organization (WTO), APEC and other multilateral frameworks, continuously injecting new momentum into global development.
The country is determined in advocating and following multilateralism, and the determination is shared by most countries in the world.
The UN-centered multilateral international system coordinates efforts in addressing global problems and challenges. The European Union, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the African Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States are actively working to safeguard regional peace and development. The latest summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation saw consensus reached on upholding and strengthening the status and function of the WTO.
Experience teaches us that peace and development are the trend of our times, multilateralism is the right path for mankind, and building a community of shared future for mankind is the general trend.
The world should still be alarmed by the fact that some people in the United States have gone down the path of adopting measures of unilateralism and protectionism. They have imposed extreme pressure, repeatedly reneged on promises and used all kinds of suppression, flouting international trade rules and damaging the global governance system to serve their self-interest.
But their behaviors have lost support. Upholding fairness and justice is the international consensus, and upholding multilateralism is in line with people's aspiration.
The world economy is at the crossroads once again. And only by making the right choice can we secure a brighter future.
The trend of times toward peaceful development is irresistible, and the forces of justice defending multilateralism shall prevail. Only by uniting under the banner of multilateralism, improving global governance and moving the international order in a more just and equitable direction can we jointly create a more prosperous and better world.
