KAMPALA, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's national team on Sunday defeated hosts Uganda 67-62 in one of the semi-finals of the on-going Zone V AfroBasket women's qualifiers.
The Kenyan team, led by Claire Gloria Lamunu, took a 35-15 lead at half time in a game played here at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium.
On their return in the second half, the Uganda Gazelles were cheered on by the home fans as they tried to fight back to close the gap, but the Kenyans played with a tight defense to give the hosts no chance.
"Our start was poor and we only played better in the last two quarters," Uganda's coach Nicholas Natuhereza told Xinhua.
In the other women semi-finals, Egypt beat Rwanda 78-73.
Egypt will now face Kenya in the final to be played on Monday.
The winner of the final will represent the Zone V region (Eastern Africa) in the AfroBasket championship to be held Aug. 9-18 in Senegal.
