MANILA, July 1 (Xinhua) -- The Philippine government wants to register all 105 million Filipinos and resident aliens in the Philippines in the national ID system by 2022, the country's Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia said on Monday.
Pernia said the government is now in the process of procuring technologies needed for the implementation of the Philippine Identification System or PhilSys Number (PSN) that will be used to authenticate people's identity in all government and private sector transactions, including applications for drivers' license, passport, tax-related transactions, voters' registration, application to schools, and bank transactions.
The national ID system would serve as a single identification which would benefit Filipinos, including those living overseas and resident aliens who are at least five years old, according to Pernia.
The ID would contain the full name of the holder and other personal information, including sex, date of birth, place of birth, blood type, address, whether the holder is a Filipino or a resident alien, front-facing photograph, full set of fingerprints, iris scan, and other identifiable features as may be determined by the law's implementing rules and regulations.
The ID will also contain optional information like marital status, mobile number, and e-mail address.
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte signed in August last year the law called PhilSys Act establishing a national ID system which is hoped to improve efficiency and transparency of public services and promote ease of doing business.
