RAMALLAH, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Secretary General of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Saeb Erekat on Monday slammed the participation of U.S. officials in the opening of a tunnel in neighborhood of Silwan in East Jerusalem.
Erekat said that the participation of senior U.S. officials, including White House Adviser Jason Greenblatt and U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, at the tunnel inauguration ceremony is an "additional insult to international law."
"The truth is that they are settlers trying very hard to implement the settler council's plan of annexation," Erekat said.
"To all those who attended Manama conference, these settlers are destroying peace," he added.
A video of the ceremony showed that Friedman took up a hammer and broke open a tunnel that runs under the Palestinian neighborhood of Silwan.
"We should show this to all participants in Manama," Erekat said, referring to the recent U.S.-led economic workshop in Bahrain's capital.
He urged all Arab leaders to condemn with the strongest terms towards the move of Greenblatt and Friedman.
In follow-up tweets, Erekat highlighted that over 64 weeks, Israel has killed 310 Palestinians, including 44 children.
