The southern Thai city of Betong would attract more foreign tourists as a new airport is set to operate in 2022, said an official from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). In a phone interview on Thursday, Pattra Limnirundon, deputy director of TAT's Narathiwat office, told Xinhua that they plan to promote Betong as "health city" and "city of natural beauty." Pattra also mentioned that Chinese tourists may enjoy themselves more in Betong since many of its residents are Chinese descendants who can still speak mandarin today and Chinese characters are almost everywhere in the city.
