Vietnam's chemical import increases 5.6 pct in H1

HANOI, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam poured roughly 2.6 billion U.S. dollars into importing chemicals and over 2.5 billion U.S. dollars importing chemical products in the first half of this year, up 5.6 percent and 6.1 percent on-year, respectively.

China was Vietnam's biggest exporter of chemicals, followed by South Korea, Japan, Thailand and Singapore, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs on Friday.

Between January and June, Vietnam exported more than 1 billion U.S. dollars worth of chemicals and 629 million U.S. dollars worth of chemical products, surging 31.4 percent and 23.2 percent, respectively.

Last year, the country spent nearly 5.2 billion U.S. dollars importing chemicals, up 25.2 percent, and roughly 5.1 billion U.S. dollars importing chemical products, up 9.8 percent, said the department.
