WINDHOEK, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's national airline, Air Namibia Friday said it shall continue to operate the Windhoek-Frankfurt - Windhoek route as per the published schedule for the foreseeable future.
The operator in a statement announced this following media reports that suggested that Cabinet took a decision for the route to be discontinued due to financial viability concerns.
"There has been no decision to suspend or terminate Air Namibia Frankfurt route by Cabinet. We wish to inform the flying public and all our esteemed stakeholders that Air Namibia shall continue to operate the route," the airline said.
According to the airline, the Board of Directors and Management, together with consultants recently appointed by the shareholders are engaged in a process of re-evaluating the strategy and supporting Air Namibia's business model that will ensure the sustainability of the national airline.
Late last month the troubled flag carrier restored flights from Windhoek to Johannesburg and Cape Town after the routes had been suspended due to unavailability of long-haul aircraft.
