CAIRO, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Egypt welcomed on Friday the formation of a sovereign council in Sudan for a three-year period.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Egypt also welcomed the formation of a civilian government in Sudan.
It also deemed the power-sharing agreement reached by all Sudanese parties as an "important step" to maintain security and stability in Sudan.
The North African country, which chairs the African Union, also reiterated its commitment to supporting the Sudanese people at the current stage and enabling Sudan to restore its key role at the Arab, African and international levels.
The Sudanese Transitional Military Council has been tasked with running Sudan's affairs after the ouster of former President Omar al-Bashir in April.
