TEHRAN, July 8 (Xinhua) -- At least one person was killed in 5.7-magnitude earthquake on Richter scale that struck Masjid Soleiman region in Iran's southwestern Khuzestan province on Monday, local media reported.
Besides, 24 other people were injured due to the incident.
The epicenter of the earthquake, which took place at 11:30 local time (0700 GMT), was at the depth of 17 km, 34.847 degrees north latitude and 45.762 degrees east longitude.
According to the Crisis Management Center of Khuzestan, the rescue and relief operators have been dispatched to the area.
Many rural houses have been destroyed due to the strength of the quake.
Also, water and power supplies in some areas in the region have been disrupted.
The quake was felt in the neighboring provinces as well as Kuwait country.
At least 15 after shocks, ranging from 3 to 4.6 magnitude, have shaken the region.
