KIEV, July 8 (Xinhua) -- The 21st Ukraine-European Union (EU) Summit kicked off here on Monday, aimed at blueprinting the future of their relations, the Ukrainian president's official website said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, European Council President Donald Tusk and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker are scheduled to hold a meeting as part of the summit to discuss the political and economic ties between the EU and Ukraine.

According to the president's official website, EU officials will reaffirm their support to Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

The Minsk agreements consist of a first protocol that the Ukrainian government and the rebels reached under the mediation of Russia, France and Germany in September 2014 in the Belarusian capital of Minsk, and a more detailed renewal that was signed in February 2015.

The agreements were designed to peacefully end the conflict in Donbas in eastern Ukraine, which has been plagued by conflicts between Ukrainian government troops and pro-independence armed groups since April 2014.

During the summit, Ukrainian and EU leaders are also scheduled to exchange views on the future priorities for their relations and the next steps in the implementation of the Association Agreement.

The Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, which includes a free trade deal and a broad range of legislation and regulation topics, came into force on Sept. 1, 2017.
