SANAA, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Houthi rebels on Monday denied reports that they launched an attempted attack on a commercial ship in the Red Sea, the group's spokesman said in a statement.
Reports "about trying today to target a ship in the Red Sea by our armed forces is completely baseless," spokesman Mohammed Abdulsalam said.
Earlier in the day, the Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen said that its naval forces foiled an attempted attack on a ship in the Red Sea, coalition spokesman Turki Al-Maliki said in a statement reported by Saudi-owned Al Arabiya television.
Al-Maliki did not provide further details or the name of the ship.
Saudi Arabia has been leading an Arab military coalition against the Iran-allied Houthi rebels in Yemen for more than four years in support of the exiled internationally recognized government of Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
