BANGKOK, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's major opposition party, the Pheu Thai party, has picked a new party leadership.
In Friday's extraordinary Pheu Thai Party caucus, 389 party members voted Sompong Amornvivat as party leader and Anudit Nakornthap as party secretary general. Both were named as unrivaled candidates for the party leadership posts.
Fifteen Pheu Thai members were picked as deputy party leaders and seven others were given the post of deputy party secretary general.
Sompong, an MP for Chiang Mai, has replaced Viroj Pao-in as party leader and Anudit, an MP for Bangkok, has replaced Phumtham Wechayachai as party secretary general. Viroj and Phumtham unsuccessfully contested the March election of MPs in Pheu Thai party-list mode.
