DAR ES SALAAM, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian police said on Friday they have killed four suspected armed bandits on Thursday in a fierce exchange of fire.
"Police killed the four suspects after they were besieged when they attempted to raid and steal from a contractor constructing a dry port project at Kwala at Mlandizi area in Coast region," said Wankyo Nyigesa, the Coast Regional Police Commander.
Nyigesa told a news conference at Kibaha, Coast region headquarter, that the thugs were gunned down after they had resisted arrest and attempted to fire at police.
He added that police had earlier set a trap to arrest them before they accomplished their mission.
He said police also captured two firearms from the bandits.
