RIO DE JANEIRO, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said on Friday that he is not concerned about the criticism he has been receiving over the possible nomination of his son Eduardo Bolsonaro to the position of Brazilian ambassador to the United States.

Since the president confirmed the possibility of the nomination on Thursday, he has been criticized both for the appearance of nepotism and for his son's inexperience in diplomacy to occupy what is regarded as one of the most complex positions in Brazil's diplomatic service.

Bolsonaro said his son, who currently serves as a federal representative in the Chamber of Deputies, or the House, is qualified for the position. He highlighted that Eduardo is a friend of the children of U.S. President Donald Trump, speaks both English and Spanish and heads the Foreign Relations Committee in the House.

Eduardo Bolsonaro said he would accept the position if he was offered. Earlier on Friday, he met with Foreign Minister Eduardo Araujo and said the minister supports his nomination.

In Brazil, nomination to any ambassador's position is made by the president, but the candidate must be questioned by the Senate and approved by both the Senate and the House.

The Brazilian embassy in Washington has been left without an ambassador since April when Bolsonaro removed the previous one.
