PHNOM PENH, July 15 (Xinhua) -- The fourth batch of 10 Cambodian young talents will undergo a 12-day training course in information and communication technology (ICT) sector in China under the Chinese telecom giant Huawei-sponsored "Seeds for the Future" program.
The group will fly to China for the course, to be held in Beijing and Shenzhen from July 22 to August 2.
Speaking at a scholarship awarding ceremony for them, Li An, the economic and commercial counsellor at the Chinese Embassy to Cambodia, said Huawei has actively fulfilled its corporate social responsibility (CSR) and given back to local society while developing its business in the country.
"Huawei's Seeds for the Future is a public welfare program dedicated to helping Cambodia develop young ICT talents," he said. "I hope that during your stay in China, all students can go out, look around, ask questions and make friends, and after coming back, you will share good Chinese stories with your friends."
Kim Sethany, secretary of state of the Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, praised Huawei for initiating the program, saying that it is very useful for Cambodian university students to get new knowledge in ICT sector in China.
"This program plays an important role in contributing to the development of human capital in ICT in Cambodia," she said. "I hope you all will use your knowledge learned in China to help develop Cambodia's ICT sector."
Huawei Cambodia's Chief Executive Officer Mark Wong said "Seeds for the Future" is Huawei's global CSR flagship program, which was initiated in 2008 to help train young ICT talents in various countries.
He said since December 2018, the program has been implemented in 125 countries and regions around the world, and 4,725 students have participated in the ICT study tours.
Mark said Huawei Cambodia "Seeds for the Future" program was launched in 2016. So far, 30 Cambodian young talents had got trained in China.
"This is the fourth year that Huawei Cambodia Seeds for the Future has been organized," he said. "The fourth batch of 10 students will depart for China this weekend to start a journey to learn ICT technology and Chinese culture."
